A Year in Photos

We celebrate our 6-month anniverary in the hospital as we await Matt's diagnosis.  We receive it that afternoon:  Acute Myeloid Leukemia. We cry and hold each other, and assure each other that we will get through this.  We don't know how, but we know we will find a way.

Below is our year in photos broken down into blocks of months

Matt starts chemo on Friday, August 28th.  He battles tumor fevers and we're moved between the cancer ward and ICU.  He receives blood and platelet transfusions almost daily.  We learn the cytogenetics of his diagnosis (the sub-type).  He has a rare subtype of AML that will require a bone marrow transplant.  We are air-lifted from the regional hospital in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to UCSD, a major cancer center in California to continue treatment and receive the transplant.  Matt begins to lose his hair and continues to battle fevers above 104 degrees, with his highest temperature reaching 107 degrees.  We quietly celebrate each time his fevers drop and we make it through another night.
